What is Equitable Stroke Control?

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) is the downward adjustment of individual hole scores for handicap purposes in order to maintain handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability. ESC sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole depending on the player's course handicap. ESC is used ONLY when a player's actual or most likely score exceeds his maximum number based on the table below. - Metropolitan Golf Association

Remember this is only for score posting purposes in the handicap computer. Sarah and I reduce your tournament and league scores according to this procedure. Your regular daily rounds of golf should be reduced before you post those scores! Let me know if you need clarification. - Vinnie

Some Early-Season Stretching Tips - Jy-Yeong Wu, Personal Trainer

Strectching your muscles before heading out to the links is so important, yet so ignored by most golfers. Especially at this time of year, we need to properly prepare our bodies for the strain the golf swing causes. Golf fitness is ever-increasing in popularity and awareness at all levels of play.

Warm up by stretching...

Stand with the feet wider than hip-width apart (at least one leg length apart) and feet turned inward...Inhale...Exhale. Now hinge at the hips and bring the right hand to the floor.  Lift the left arm and twist from the waist to the left, looking over the left shoulder.  Hold for five breaths and switch sides for three to five times on each sides.

Taking a few moments to do something this simple will help keep you limber and will even help you improve those early numbers you write down on that scorecard!

Medicine Ball Twist

Here's a power-building exercise that's also a good pre-round warm-up. Stand in front of a mirror holding a four to eight pound medicine ball. Make sure your spine stays straight.  Keeping your feet planted, rotate backward and then change direction quickly to bring the ball forward again. Make sure your abdominals are tight the entire time, controlling the motion. Do three sets of eight to ten reps. Then switch sides. Start this exercise slowly and then quicken your rotation as you get stronger. If you're working with a partner, toss the ball back and forth. Try to use the power from your abs, not your arms, to catch and throw.

The Twaalfskill pro shop, owned and operated by Head Golf Professional, Vinnie Manginelli, was the talk of Twaalfskill in 2008. Newly painted, new fixtures, and a selection that rivaled all other on course pro shops in the Hudson Valley had the members talking. In 2009, the pro shop will specialize in those brands that you just can't get in the larger superstores. As a staff member with Titleist, Vinnie will feature the latest product line from Titleist and Cobra as well as exclusively offer shoes by Footjoy. Ping will again be a prominent brand in the shop this year. The quality and excellence that goes into Ping clubs is second to none. Titleist and Srixon will be the featured balls in 2009. Titleist is the number one ball in golf and in Vinnie's eyes, Srixon is the next great golf ball out there. Many members tried them in 2008 and virtually every one came back for more with nothing but high praise for the ball, regardless of the model they chose. Custom club fitting, custom orders and a brand selection ranging from the brands mentioned above to Taylor Made, Nike, Callaway, and Wilson make this pro shop your one stop for all your golfing needs. We are open to the public as well so tell your friends about our service, selection and level of excellence.
