Letter from the Pro Shop…
The kids are back in school and football is back on the air. Halloween costumes are in the stores and fall is a few weeks away. However, don’t even think of packing away those clubs yet. Fall is the best time of the year to get out on the links and take in the fresh, cool air. Keep your game as fresh by playing more golf this autumn. We have many member events in September and October. There is a tournament on Labor Day. Two-person better ball is the format and anyone can play. September also has the couple's championship, our Tournament of Champions (invitations going out next week), a Glow Ball Tournament and a Men’s Member-Member. Check your calendar and see us in the shop for details.
Congratulations to Jeanette Provenzano and Chris Ferraro for successfully defending their club championship crowns in August. Other club championship flight winners were Emily Sinagra, Gerard Kelly, Chris Seche and Andrew Steipp. They are all invited to the Tournament of Champions in September. Also winning in August were Gary LaConture and Jeff Schaller in the Tuesday Men’s league, Tom Murphy and John Wallace in the Wednesday league and the Lowes, Bud and Snookie from the Thursday night mixed league. Finally, the Junior Club Championship went to Jeff Schaller Jr.
It was a good month for holes-in-one. PJ Strubel (hole #3), BJ Bahruth (hole #2), and Jeff Schaller Jr. (hole #4) all achieved the feat that most never experience.
We will be aerating the greens after Labor Day. For your information, here’s the Wikipedia explanation of the process:
“Refers to the extent of air gaps in soil. Aeration commonly refers to the process of using mechanized equipment to either puncture the soil with spikes (spike aeration) or remove approximately 1"X2" cores of soil from the ground (core aeration). Spike aeration involves the use of an aeration machine with spikes up to a foot or more in length. Spike aeration is sometimes used to address drainage issues in areas with turf. Core aeration is done on turf areas as a means of reducing turf compaction, reducing thatch buildup, improving the infiltration of water/nutrients, and creating an environment where grass seed can have direct contact with the soil.”
The Labor Day Better Ball, our Silo Ridge trip and the league dinners highlight the Labor Day week. The men’s fall league starts Tuesday, September 9. Please contact me to confirm that you are signed up.
Please remember, all outstanding shop credit must be used by October 1.
I am currently looking into some winter golf instruction options. It's definitely a good idea to keep swinging through the winter. You'll be glad you did come April.
If you would like to receive your pro shop newsletter via email or receive other information regarding the shop, instruction or other information about events at the club, email me at vjmanginelli@pga.com or see me in the shop anytime.
I hope everyone had a great summer. Let’s make it a good fall!
As always, I thank you for all your support and I’ll see you around the club.
